It is quite easy in our daily routine to develop vitamin and mineral deficiencies due to our standard American diet and lack of proper food choices. We are all on the go and sometimes it becomes more difficult. Vitamin B-12 plays an essential role in our having optimal health. There are certain lifestyle categories that are prone to having severe Vitamin B-12 deficiencies. Those that are potentially set up for this are strict vegetarians, pregnant and breastfeeding women, heavy drinkers, smokers, and the elderly over age 70. Due to certain reasons, our digestive system gets to a place sometimes where it can’t digest, absorb, and assimilate Vitamin B-12 very well. Conditions such as parasites, Crohn’s disease, poor bacterial growth, and even pernicious anemia can be the root causes.
